Our Scope: Kitchen Remodel

This kitchen addition in Downtown Fernandina's historic district shows how thoughtful renovation can expand a home without losing its character. The project added onto the existing structure under roof to give the family a bigger kitchen, one built for cooking and everyday use, while keeping the style true to the house. New doors now open onto a brick porch built with original brick reclaimed from a garage once on the property.

Because the home sits in the historic district, every exterior material had to blend seamlessly with the original structure, a process that took time but preserved the home's historic integrity. Inside, custom cabinetry solves everyday problems in creative ways: one cabinet was built specifically to hide the robot vacuum, with the toe kick removed so it can roll out on its own, while modified bifold cabinet doors and a hidden washer and dryer keep the space looking clean. Cambria countertops, Kohler fixtures, and KitchenAid appliances complete the kitchen, styled with soft blues and whites in a traditional palette.

The result is a kitchen the client is very happy with, bigger, brighter, and built to fit how the family actually lives.
